Governors and Governance

Our School Governing Body

Governors are a voluntary body of people who guide and support the strategic direction of the school.  They are members of the school team and their contribution to the running of the school is highly value.

The instrument of government states that the governing body shall consist of:-

  • 2 parent governors
  • 1 local authority governor
  • 1 headteacher
  • 1 staff Governor
  • 3 foundation governors (including ex-officio governor)
  • 4 co-opted governors
  • The total number of governors will be 12 and the term of office for all governors will be four years.

The role of the governing body is a strategic one, its key functions are to:

  • Set the aims and objectives for the school
  • Set the policies for achieving those aims and objectives
  • Set the targets for achieving those aims and objectives
  • Monitor and evaluate the progress the school is making towards the achievement of its aims and objectives
  • Be a source of challenge and support to the headteacher

School Vision

At Shottery St Andrew’s School we work as a close team of Governors and staff, parents and children, to achieve our aims. Governors support the school as much as is possible to continue to improve outcomes for all. We aim to improve the effectiveness of leadership and management of the school, for which we are responsible.

We continue to support the Head Teacher and staff in helping the children to develop positive attitudes and values for themselves and help to make sure our children are safe, healthy, confident and happy. We support and value our church connections, with shared values and also British values of democracy, rule of law, individual liberty, mutual respect and tolerance of those of different faiths and beliefs. Children, staff, Governors and parents have contributed to redesigning our Vision and Values, based on the scripture, ‘ Let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.’ Matthew 5:16

We believe these factors will enable our children to be successful learners who want to make a positive contribution to the wider community, and so develop life- long skills that will enable them to have the best possible futures.

Mrs P. Auricchio, Clerk to Governors - auricchio.p@welearn365.com

As a school we recognise that a diversity of thought, voices and perspectives is essential to good governance and the effective running of any organisation. We regularly collect diversity information from our governors and, depending on current data, can use this to:

  • target recruitment to address gaps in experience and diversity
  • develop and adapt board practices to ensure full participation
  • prioritise training and awareness - raising in identified areas
  • address potential 'blind spots' through seeking wider advice and perspectives on current and upcoming opportunities, challenges and risks.

However, we are unable to publish this information as it would mean that individual members of our governing body are identifiable.
